In
conjunction with the American Diabetes Alert program, the Freeport
Lions Club and Freeport High School Student Council representatives will be
distributing sugar-free candy and diabetes awareness literature on Friday April 17th & Saturday April 18th, 2015, at Cub Foods, ShopKo, and Sullivan’s Foods in Freeport IL.
The Lions Club is asking for donations to
support programs of the American Diabetes Association. These programs include identification of
those who are at high risk for developing diabetes, summer camp for children
with diabetes, diabetic retinopathy exams and funding for research.
Over 16 million Americans nationwide suffer from this life threatening
disease and 750,000 are newly diagnosed each year. Diabetes is the leading cause of new
blindness for those between the ages of 20-74.
If left untreated, diabetes can also lead to kidney and heart disease,
strokes, amputations, and even death.
If you questions about diabetes you may call the American Diabetes
Association at 888-342-2383.
The Freeport Lions Club
meets monthly on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays. For more information
